Test Your Toys for the Japan Market

2018-10-03

Do you know the toy safety requirements in Japan?

[Mandatory requirements]

Designated toys that are intended for infants in Japan are required to comply with the mandatory safety requirements in the “Specifications and Standards for Foods, Food Additives, etc.” under the Food Sanitation Law, including:

-          Section III: Apparatus, Containers and Packaging

-          Section IV: Toys

[Voluntary requirements]

Japan Toy Safety Standard (ST Standard) and the ST mark Scheme established by the Japan Toy Association provide toy manufacturers,

retailers and consumers with additional safeguard for toys intended for children up to the age of 14.

Imported and manufactured toys for Japan should be tested by a designated testing laboratory to demonstrate conformity to the Food Sanitation Law and/or the ST Standard.

STC is a designated overseas testing laboratory in Hong Kong for both, endorsed by Japan Toy Association and Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare.
