The Hong Kong Certification Centre (HKCC) (formerly known as The Hong Kong Safety Institute - HKSI) was established in 1998 as a product certification body in Hong Kong. Through the one-stop product certification service offered by HKCC, clients are able to have their products accepted in local and overseas markets saving them time and money.
Since then, HKCC has signed Mutual Recognition Agreements (MRA) with renowned overseas certification bodies such as ASTA, MET NEMKO, SEV and KTL. HKCC is a Recognized Certification Body (RCB) of the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) in Hong Kong and was also accredited by the China National Accreditation Service for Conformity Assessment (CNAS). In 2012, HKCC was accredited by the Hong Kong Certification Body Accreditation Service (HKCAS).
Another important development for HKCC was the introduction of the Hong Kong Safety Mark product certification scheme. HKCC has also launched the ECO Mark and Phthalate Compliance Mark for monitoring hazardous substances such as VOCs and heavy metals in furniture, paint and food containers.
In order to maintain impartiality, an HKCC Certification Advisory Committee has been set up consisting of users, consumers, manufacturers and technical experts.
To promote awareness of product safety and the Hong Kong Safety Mark, HKCC participates in school shows, EMSD carnivals, annual ceremonies, road-shows, seminars and the publication of a series of consumer guides.
