US Annual Analysis of the California Proposition 65 in 2020

2021-01-26

Proposition 65 (often abbreviated as "Prop 65" and is formally titled “The Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986”) is a California's law with the purpose to protect drinking water sources from toxic substances that cause cancer and birth defects, and to reduce or eliminate exposures to those chemicals generally, such as consumer products, by requiring warnings in advance of those exposures.

California's State law requires any person suing "in the public interest" to enforce Proposition 65, to notify the Attorney General of the lawsuit and outcome of the case, as a "60-day Notice".

Since such "60-day Notice" record is available for view by general public, it is a good source to get detailed information of the Proposition and to avoid from similar violation.

The "60-day Notice" filing data has a total of 3,534 in 2020, and they are analyzed as in the charts below, showing the top hazardous chemicals and product categories being reported.
